George Washington, CFO

CFO.com has a great article on George Washington and the financial records he kept during his life and especially during the Revolution. In fact, his books and ledgers are available online from the library of Congress. Washington used these records to request reimbursement from Congress after the war. A post war audit by the treasury show that Washington was owed an additional eighty-nine ninetieths of one dollar. Somehow I don't think we've seen the same level of financial management in government in a long time.
