What Are You Driving?

The WSJ says that Ford's having a fire sale. It's now rid of Aston Martin and trying desperately to dump Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo.

As the ownership of various auto brands continues to change, this will create some issues for used car consumers.

Already it's important to know if you're buying a pre-Ford or a Ford Jaguar. Pre-Ford Jaguar's have hideous electrical problem reputations. For Land Rover, you want to know if your use Land Rover was designed by Land Rover, BMW or Ford. BMW owned LR for a short period but is reported to have contributed significant design improvements.

Car brands are starting to be like the NBA. Just when you like a player, they pick up and move to a new team. After a few years, you don't what's any good any more. So if you're looking at a used post Land Rover, pre-Ford, BMW era SUV, make sure you know what you're buying.
